At this year’s annual convention held in San Diego last week NARM presented their 1st Annual “Outstanding Achievement” Awards. Atlantic Records received NARM’s Business Innovation award for its Fanbase digital experience, an Adobe AIR application that pulls content about bands from multiple sources into one central location.
Fanbase is an interactive desktop application where music fans can receive the latest content from their favorite musicians in one single download. The application features an audio player, chat room and a continuous feed of all the official and unofficial news, photos and videos from some of today's popular artists. Fanbase pulls content from the artist's official site, label site, MySpace page, MTV, Twitter, Buzznet, Yahoo! News, Google News, Flickr, Youtube, and Brightcove, as well as fan sites and blogs.
While NARM might recognize the innovative aspect of Fanbase which already launched in 2008, so far Atlantic only added 17 artists from their 130 artist roster. Designed to track all your favorite musicians from one application, with such limited resources it's hard to expect fans picking up Fanbase!
Atlantic seems aware of this and posted the following news at Fanbase earlier this month:
"Keep an eye out for the new getfanbase.com site launching later this month. We are redesigning this site from scratch to give you more of your favorite artists, as well as exciting new ways to experience them on every device in your life. Lots of big announcements coming soon!"
Let's wait and see how innovative the new service will be. We'll be watching ;)
