Beyond Oblivion is a brand new digital music service planning to unveil its "liberated music" marketplace in September. Music from the cloud.

Beyond Oblivion is a brand new, disruptive, digital music service launching officially in 2011, co-funded by News Corp and global charity foundation Wellcome Trust.

Beyond Oblivion enables high-quality music files to be downloaded and played from a vast cloud-based library (the Infinite Music Library ) and shared freely between licensed devices such as music players, mobile phones, computers and pads. Acknowledging that the value of a digital music file is in how many times it is played and not the initial download, Beyond reports play-count to rights holders who are paid a royalty every time their music is played – whether or not the file was legally or illegally downloaded, ripped or shared.

For a smooth user experience Beyond will provide users with intelligent music discovery tools to help them search their way through the Infinite Music Library.

In the summer of 2011, Beyond Oblivion will distribute a limited number of free licenses as part of a global Beta-test of our music service. "Priority will be given to influencers – those of you who are passionate about music and expert in a certain artist, genre, or even a single song, and who actively review, recommend and share your files, playlists and point of view. We call you Gurus, and you are incredibly important to us. Welcome!"

Beyond paid downloads, beyond subscriptions, beyond piracy, and Beyond Oblivion is "music liberation".
