Browsing both the graphical artists and the musicians featured at STARTMOBILE, it's amazing how much variation and quality you managed to bring together with so many artists nobody ever heard off. How did you find these people and how did you convince them to submit their work?
"With the mobile medium, we are talking about bits - ones and zeroes, so there are NO traditional limitations to what we can include - or how much of it! With the ARTISTS, we started with the folks that we had shown in real-world art shows. And then thousands more artists submitted their work and we included the best stuff. Similarly with the MUSIC, we started with the musicians who had performed at our art shows over the years. So we started with a pretty amazing mix of music, and then I spent a few weeks surfing the Internet for even MORE music to add to START MOBILE. I simply sent emails to the bands and musicians I liked, and it turned out that most of them were already familiar with what we were doing on the ART side of things, and pretty much everyone said YES to creating M60s for distribution through START MOBILE. On the ART side of things, I am sometimes amazed that I am actually working with my favorite artists - folks like Shepard Fairey and Aidan Hughes and Vulcan and Nagel. Same thing with the music - bringing Immortal Technique or My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult to the mobile medium is pretty exciting - I have loved their music for years, and to have a chance to interact with my favorite artists and musicians is sometimes pretty surreal - I definitely feel blessed that this is actually my job!"
