for John Digweed @ the Balance 007 CD launch with Chris Fortier, James Holden + Luke Fair (which John Digweed was actually at) in Miami a few years back.
"A guy (later found out that he was some media person from Portugal) approached me and asked if I was John, but I actually thought he was saying Tom (because of the loud music etc. being drunk etc.) and was quite surprised he knew my name, I naturally said yes and he then started hugging me, shaking my hand, which was completely over-top, but I rolled with it anyway, thinking that he must've liked me so much because of the Balance series.
"Anyway, all these other people started coming up to me taking photos, shaking hands, giving me demos and such things. I started to think that this is very odd that people would obsess over some dude from OZ that releases CDs and I only clicked when the initial person that approached me started telling me how great my set was when I played in Portugal and then said, "Digweed you're amazing" - that's when I thought, shit, they must think I'm John Digweed and this whole time he's standing only 20 metres away from me. By this stage I couldn't really tell people that I wasn't Digweed, because it went too far and I think they've would killed me, so this kept going for another few hours and started to ham it up a bit, until I left the club.
"The funniest thing about this whole story, is that the next night I went to go check-out Deep Dish @ MINT and there was a problem with the guestlist, so me and a few friends had to go to the back of the queue, we waited for a few minutes and then I heard a voice behind me saying, "John Digweed, what are you doing in line, this is crazy you have to line-up, you are number 1 DJ in the world." It was the Portugese guy from the previous night in disbelief, that John Digweed would line-up to get into a club - I looked at him speechless and walked off."
What can we expect in the future from EQ?
"We have just released Balance 10.1 mixed by Jimmy Van M and will release Balance 013 (by SOS - Desyn Masiello, Omid 16B en Demi) to be launched in Miami WMC 2008. Aside to that we have a Proton Radio show that we'll launch soon and some quality releases on our EQ [grey] label, along with a remix project of the Chris Fortier album, with some big underground artists."
Sounds like a cool company to release on? Hear Tom about his demo policy, "Our office receives quite a few demos for release on our EQ [grey] label and we're more than happy to accept demos in general, as you'll never know what you'll find.
