Now in his second decade in the electronic music scene, Charles Webster can be considered one of the few real innovators in an increasingly stale & predictable dance music world. Just check his Discogs and you'll find a list you never anticipated. Also known as Presence, Furry Phreaks, DJ Profile, Love from San Francisco, Lo-Rise, Megatonk and more - as far as we're concerned Charles has earned his medal of honor along the way. Music. Music. And more Music. Need more reasons to ask him some questions? Nope.
Given your relatively unknown status and the fact your musical highlights could easily have led you to stardom, may we assume you're allergic to the "show" side of the music industry, or is it just bad luck? Are we wrong when we noticed your profile started increasing recently?
"I would like to think I am not fully 'unknown' as you mention in the question, but, for sure, I am very careful about media and all the bullshit that surrounds it. The whole thing for me is about music and not all that seems to be important in 'the business' these days. So I guess I am , as you say, slightly wary of the media. Not because I am scared of what people may say, but because I believe people don't need to be told what is good or bad; they are able to make up their own minds what is good or not. Music has too much fashion surrounding it and way to many 'emperor's new clothes' type artists week in week out.
