Earlier this year, Karmarouge Records organized a remix contest for Gabriel Ananda's "Ihre persönliche Glücksmelodie". Ananda, a producer from Cologne in Germany, released several releases over the years on imprints like Trapez, Utils, Substatic, Treibstoff and now Karmarouge Records. The remix contest has already been closed, the winners are in and the new "Glücksmelodie Remix Contest EP" has just been released...
We asked two of the five contest winners about their inspiration and the tools they used for their winning remixes.
Hardmoon (Spijkenisse/The Netherlands)
Arjen Schumacher - aka Hardmoon - started playing the piano in 1978. After he heard that TB303 sound in the track "Stakker Humanoid" he decided to build a nice studio by collecting synths and drum computers. In 2001 he discovered the power of soft synths and sold most of his gear to invest in software. He still says he doesn´t regret it one bit.
Arjen: "I produced the Gabriel Ananda remix with FLstudio, using several VST plugins. The most notable synths in the track are a TB-303 bassline and the FM7 synthesizer of Native Instruments. I did use two hardware synths as well, the Yamaha AN1x and the obscure Yamaha QY-70 module.
The inspiration came mostly from my daughter (at the time 6 months old). My girlfriend Patricia and I are so awed by our little miracle. On top of that I was lucky enough that I hadn't heard Gabriel Ananda's original "Gluecksmelodie", so I entered the contest totally open minded."
