Edwin Oosterwal is co-owner (alongside Joris Voorn) and label manager of both the Rejected and Green labels, based in The Netherlands. Having worked tirelessly building their impeccable reputation for quality music that both labels stand for, Edwin has also earned himself a reputation as a DJ, remixer and producer. Like his energetic DJ sets, his tracks are examples of dancefloor dynamite. Still in the shadow of his friend Joris Voorn, it's a matter of time before Edwin will be in the international spotlights himself. We had a chat with him about his drive for quality and his personal ambitions.
Music may be your first love, but you have an engineering background and had a day job next to your music career for many years. At what point in your life did you decide to dedicate yourself to music and why?
"When I do someting I want to do it right. And it just wasn't possible to have a career both in engineering and music. Running our two labels Green and Rejected, DJ-ing on the weekends, producing music and a day job was too much. A choice had to be made. And music being my main passion, the choice was fairly easy. I have been doing music full-time now for about two years and I am loving every minute of it."
Why has it taken you so long to release your own stuff and when can we expect your first artist album?
"So far I have only released a few EP's. I would love to do an album in the future. But I haven't been able to find the time and patience for it. Unfortunately I am a very slow producer. So it's probably going to take a while. No regrets though, I don't believe in having regrets in life."
