While a full band live on stage, Wim Plug, Mark Kneppers and Oscar De Jong are the three piece studio core of Kraak & Smaak. Being one of Holland's finest dance music live acts since 2003, they're also recognized internationally for their hard to resist DJ sets. Their music moves effortlessly from nu-disco through deep electronic funk to upbeat hand in the air anthems. With the release of their third artist album "Electric Hustle" this month, you can expect Kraak & Smaak to take centre stage again during this year's festival season.
In between their first and second artist album, the trio also released a double CD containing the favourite remixes they had done, including interpretations for Jamiroquai and Richard Dorfmeister. Since then their remix catalogue has only gained more weight with Maxwell, Junkie XL, Sam Sparro, Fedde le Grand, Darwin Deez, Hurts, and Sander Kleinenberg all being re-touched with the Kraak & Smaak sound.
Only recently they remixed Moby's track "The Day," enough reason to have a chat with Oscar de Jong.
Moby's new single 'The Day' includes a remix by you. How did you approach the track to remix it in the fashion you've done it?
"Moby´s original reminded me very much of late seventies Bowie stuff (especially his voice) as well as of the dark disco of the early 80's. So that´s why I took this direction. While playing, things started fitting together right away."
Some would say you haven't been very respectful towards the original. Was that a choice or did that just happen while being on the job?
