Contest Interview: Vanity Theft

INTERVIEW: VANITY THEFT

With this contest we really want to see some creativity, something different (as opposed to just throwing a dance beat in the background).

With the Vanity Theft remix contest going on here at Laptoprockers now, we thought it a nice idea to get to know the girls a bit better. So we asked guitarist Brittany Hill some questions about life in an all-girl indie band.

Is it rock'n roll all the way - or maybe throwing pudding at one another?

Vanity Thefts' roots go back to highschool. What were your dreams back then and how does that relate to what you've already achieved?

"Thinking back on it, our goals kept changing as we went along. I remember my first goal being to play as many live shows as possible, at first local, then out of state. After we put out a full length album our goal was to eventually tour one day. Maybe in the back of my head I dreamt of making it big one day but we've already come so much farther than I ever thought we would so in my mind we are successful."

An all girl band? Suppose there's a vacancy. Would you deny a male band member if he's the coolest guy around and 100% qualified for the job?

"We've tossed around the idea of having a male bassist, but normally only because we were in dire need of that position being filled. Now that everything is so intact I'd be inclined to say no to that. Although we have no intention of flaunting this as an all-girl band or using that as a crutch of some sort, I feel like it wouldn't be the same Vanity Theft without 4 girls. We have Morgan (our tour manager) and that's enough male for us - haha."
