Joris Voorn Interview: Balance 14

JORIS VOORN INTERVIEW

"It’s about looking for the perfect combination of samples or tracks, where melodies complement each other or grooves work great together."

Ever since he posted a massive tracklisting on his MySpace last December, Joris Voorn is expected to take DJ mix compilations to a completely new level with Balance 14. Commented "Very inspiring" and "Something from the future" by fans, Tom Panzic (Stomp) even qualified the tracklisting as something of epic proportions.

In 1997, from his hometown of Rotterdam (NL), Joris Voorn started concentrating on Deep House and Techno sounds and never ceased doing so the past decade. His page up at Discogs reveals he is no stranger to taking new directions. Despite the numerous releases Joris has been involved with over the years, and the many DJ sets he played worldwide, he somehow remained relatively unknown to a bigger audience.

His next release might change all that. Expected to have the same impact as James Holden's Balance 05 mix five years ago, Balance 14 is a time wired bomb set to explode in on March 23rd - when the album is released in Europe. We asked Joris about the Hype.

Expectations are very high. How does that feel?

"It is great people are so interested in the project, but it’s crazy though how it could become such a hype even before anybody heard the mixes yet! When expectations are this high there’s always going to be disappointment for some people. Especially those who’ve been expecting something different."
