If you're into remixing and/or actively involved with music forums on sites like KVR or Ableton there's a fair chance you stumbled upon a guy calling himself "blortblort" and "madder than you". His real name is Allen Somerlot and his NIN remixes have been listed high in the - now a bit outdated - "MySpace NIN remix charts" and his tracks can also be found as DEMO tracks on several VST developer sites.
He loves debugging music software and he hates the way that music has been "subcompartmentalized" to the point of nausea over the past decade. According to him there aren't even as many varieties of cheese as there are house music! Let's Find out how crazy this guy really is.
What was the first instrument you ever played?
"Piano. I had lessons off and on from the age of 6 to around 17."
How did the magic of music hit you? by instance, gradually or .....
"I've always been around music and musical greatness. Both parents and many of their friends. The kind of thing that either inspires you or in some cases makes you think there is no WAY you could ever be as good. I "suffered" both conditions alternately as I grew up. Ultimately, I came to love music and the music *I* created on my own terms. But it took a while! Being around classically trained folks for a good portion of my life, there *can* be a mind set that if music is not grounded in a technical background, it somehow has less value. It took me a while to see that is just NOT true. I now regret my own musical bias'.
