Sampling and remixing have been subject to all kinds of copyright issues over the years. Yet a completely new genre came forward from it: Mashup. Where some people may claim a Remix essentially is an extension of someone else's creative talent - this hardly can be said of Mashups. A Mashup undeniably is a new creation out of existing material. Contrary to the remix it lends from different sources, broken up and put together in a completely new fashion. Of course some purists will still say, this is not the real thing compared to creating stuff from out of the blue. But well, that would be about the same as saying Jimi Hendrix wasn't a great guitar player, because he used a pre-fab piece of wood with strings and magnets attached to it put together by someone else - Leo Fender. Or saying a painter isn't a true artist because he's using existing colors. If you start thinking in this direction nothing essentially is a new creation - which might be true ;)
