Recording on internationally renowned labels, such as Sub Static, Minus, Perlon, Kompakt and his own label Wagon Repair, Jonson has created some of the most influential tracks of the past few years.
Many of his tracks found themselves on the top ten lists of leading magazines and artists such as Ritchie Hawtin, Gilles Peterson, Svent Vath and Laurent Garnier. Jonson's sounds focus on a multitude of outboard equipment, old analogues that give him the distinct hands usage that have become the main element of his live performances. Let's find out how he became hooked.
You seem to be a perfect example of someone who's coming from a compu-based generation and became interested in electronic music at a very young age.
"Yes, I was lucky enough to have parents that were both interested in music and a father who had interest in technology. From the age of 9 or 10 (I can't remember) I began to compose electronic music with my fathers sequencing and midi equipment. I think this was around 1988. I seemed to work backwards for quite a time though with the technology as I went from using computers at first and then working back in time to the late 70's analogue gear. Over the last few years I am starting to work more with computers again but still mostly focused on outboard equipment."
