SHANE54 GOES LAPTOPDJ

Sitting on a large rack of equipment next to the desk as a six year old at a concert with his dad was the moment he decided he wanted to make music and entertain people.

Előd Császár is a well-known pop artist in his home country of Hungary. During the past decade he released 8 artist albums and sold over 300.000 records. Now he's a dance music producer and a DJ. A 'Laptop DJ' to be more precise. He loves his work as a Laptop DJ so much that he has named his album, his TV show, website and podcast after it. Oh, and he even makes his own Laptop DJ comics! Does the name 'Shane 54' ring a bell?

You say you're a lovechild of the 80's synth pop generation but you chose an artist name associated with the 70's. Why?

"Good question! I was looking for a name for my then planned electronic dance music project for a mere six months without any result. Then I saw the film "54" for the first time. When the license plate of main character Shane O'Shea's car appeared on the screen 'Shane 54' seemed such a powerful name to me that I knew I found what I'd been looking for. I never thought about the association with the era, it was just a cool name.

"Later on I realized that (Belgian 80s cult techno pop band) Front 242 had a guy called Richard 23. I also liked his name at that time very much, so I guess somewhere it was a subconscious attraction to the name-number combination."

You were already successful being in a Hungarian Boy Band and even released 8 albums with them. What made you decide for a career move?

"Due to some tragic events in late 1998 my life and career collapsed completely. Then I went into dance music, since it was easy to do by myself with a computer only.
