Sónar 2009

SóNAR 2009

This year, a more electronic Sónar bases its line-up on emerging talent and creates SónarKids, a new festival for children.

At last year's festival, more than 80 thousand people enjoyed a musical line-up that combined major names in today's electronica with ideas for minority interests. Sónar 2009 presents a line-up based on very young artists who are rapidly emerging names on the international electronic scene. New ground-breakers such as Crystal Castles, Fever Ray, Micachu and the Shapes, Mujava, La Roux, SebastiAn, Martyn, Joker, Bass Clef, Filastine and Deadmau5 share the bill with classic acts of the highest calibre, including Orbital and Grace Jones.

The festival once again reasserts its supremely electronic identity, with the presence of maestros of the genre including Moderat (Modeselektor + Apparat + Pfandfinderei) and the artists of Ghostly International, Raster Noton and Ostgut Ton, as well as a healthy sample of freshly minted dubstep and other urban rhythms.

As a special addition to the line-up on the last minute, Sónar presents the performance of RRIICCEE, lead by the charismatic actor and musician, New Yorker, Vincent Gallo, who will create his musical discourse by live improvisation on the SonarHall stage. Sónar creates SonarKids, a new festival of music and creative experiences for children and parents, which will be held on Sunday 21 June on the Sónar by Day stages at the CCCB. The event will include renowned Spanish and international artists who will adapt their styles to their younger audience, with numerous activities to awaken and stimulate their creativity.

In May, Sónar spreads its wings to the United States for the first time, with events in New York and Washington, and visits London once again.
