INTERVIEW: DON DIABLO

Who is Don Diablo? Well, for starters he's amongst the most popular dance artists in The Netherlands, alongside Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Junkie XL and Ferry Corsten. Over the years, his production work evolved from a more aggressive sound to where its now: A refreshing blend of different styles. He's released well over 70 singles on many different labels, in many different styles, under many different guises. He even was in a DJ boy band! About time to get us some clues...

Looking at your career so far its almost like a rocket-launch into orbit. You do your own gigs, you run a label and you are producer at the same time. How do you fuel such an operation without sacrificing creativity?

"Well, to be honest it was harder for me to work with a major record company in the past, because they are mainly very slow & creatively brain dead. The fact that I call the shots, make all the music myself, without having to discuss it with anybody else in- or outside the studio gives me a lot of inspiration and basically takes off the brakes when it comes to my creativity. I will admit it gets very busy doing an average of 25 shows a month, running my own label, supervising several websites, producing all the music, compilations, a radioshow and of course a lot of press, but the only thing I am sacrificing is sleep and of course time with my family & friends I am afraid!"

Not so long ago your label released a track that made it all the way up to #3 in the UK charts. What can we expect next?
