Michael Jackson's hitsong "You Are Not Alone" was the first track ever to reach the number one spot in the American charts from out of nowhere.
The hitsong dating from 1995 always has been credited to R&B star R. Kelly but now this turns out not to be true.
A Belgian court ruled the song was originally composed two years before by two Belgian songwriters - Danny and Eddy van Passel - under the title "If we can start all over".
Belgian broadcaster VTM reported the two have been fighting for their copyright for the past twelve successive years.
"You are not alone", the second single from Jackson's album "History - Past, Present and Future, Book I" was not only a big seller. Being a hitsong it also got a lot of airplay and other artists have covered the track as well.
According to the ruling, all money R. Kelly received over the years for this track, should have been paid to the Belgian duo. It is now up to the Belgian copyrights organisation SABAM to clear this mess.
