How do you guys work together in the studio and when you're on the road? Who does what? I know you both have other hobbies too!
"I won't call it "hobbies". Kristian's got a record store (Plattentasche) and I'm working as a graphic designer. Both jobs need a lot of time and that's why we don't have too much time to do music. We only sit once a week in the studio and try to manage all. The work-sharing is that I do most of the musical input and all the technical stuff and Kristian has the ability after listening 5 hours to one bassdrum to decide when it's good. That's absolutly important. We both also dj on the weekends and that makes it really hard at the moment to manage all the things ..."
What makes that Âme sound so special? (Not only in your productions but also in deejaying). What kind of equipment do you use?
"I think the most important point is that we try to put many influences into our music as well as in our dj sets. From Detroit Techno to Disco, Deep House or even so called "Minimal". We try to put all these styles into a track - for sure not every style in every track ;-)
"Our equipment is based on analog and digital synthesizers which I play directly into the sequencer. We like the analog way really much more than only computer use. For sure we also use plug-ins but our computer is a very old G4 Mac ... there are some limits with that machine."
Along with Steve Bug you released a mix album on Dessous, and some new material is probably already planned. What do you have in store for us?
"At first there is our remix for Jerome Sydenham's "Timbuktu" (Ibadan) and as well our version of the new Innervisions 12inch of Stefan Goldmann's "Sleepy Hollow". There is also a new mix cd for Sonar Kollektiv called "Âme... Mixing" which should be out these days.
"At the moment we just finished a track for a ballet in Berlin which should be released next year at the premiere and which was a very interesting thing to do. We also work on a few remixes and on our next release on Innervisions, for sure!"
Âme 'Rej' - watch & listen!
Watch a video clip of Âme dropping 'Rej' at The End nightclub in London.
Or watch how these guys get to a boiling point just by playing 'Rej'.
Still not enough? This is what Techno wizard Ben Sims does with 'Rej'.
Okay, maybe this hot and sexy girl dancing on 'Rej' can finally convince you how good it is? :)
