COLLINS & BEHNAM

We first met while working for the same radio station. Collins invited me for a club gig at his residency, and since that time we started collaborating.

You posted a pretty cool Mongoose remix at YouTube. How do feel about Beatport's Remix Sasha contest? Comments have been made that sending only 20 remixes (out of the 600 entries) to Sasha is not an ideal way to pick a winner.

"The thing is that we did this remix mainly for fun. We noticed Beatport's Sasha remix contest when we were in the studio with Hot-X, working on the new HyperSpace mix CD. You might never heard of it, but HyperSpace is one of the biggest Techno events in Central Europe. We worked out something instantly and did the complete Mongoose remix in 6-7 hours. We never intended to send it to the contest, but afterwards we tested it in the clubs and it worked pretty well - so we decided to give it a chance. In my point of view the function of a remix is to make something fresh, something new, out of the original. The winning remix is almost identical to the original. But in the end we are happy that we did our remix. We play it in our DJ sets, and we got some pretty good feedback."

Imagine a wedding between your favorite Rock and Dance music tracks. Which ones would make the ideal match and why?

"Any track by Nitzer Ebb. They got the the energy of electronic music in their songs but sound like a rock band."

What kind of laptop/computer setup are you guys using?

"We use Apple computers. For both DJing and playing live we use the MacBook Pro. Till now we used Stanton Final Scratch 2 for DJing, but as we didn't get any recent updates we will soon change to Traktor Scratch, Native Instruments' hardware solution. We tried other things as well but with a software only setup we miss the feeling of spinning tracks with Vinyl or CD.

"When we do our live act we use two MacBooks with Ableton Live and M-audio controllers. In the studio we use Cubase, Acid Pro, and a lot of VSTi instruments, many from Native Instruments. I just got started with Logic recently, I like it but I'm still learning."
