Umek talks about new album!

DJ UMEK INTERVIEW

Mon, April 06, 2009
"There are at least 5 remixes I wish I would have done better, but at the time they sounded good."

Would you allow a remix site like laptoprockers to put up one of your tracks for remixing?

''If there's a good idea behind it, why not? Just not another basic remix competition.''

You seem to have a strong interest with people's mental state. Many of your tracks carry the name of medical drugs, while you named your 2002 debut artist album Neuro. Can you explain this interest?

''It might look like that, but believe me, my track-names have much more meaning now then in those days. Back then it was always a big problem for me to find a proper title, so one day a friend of mine gave me a list of all the medicines available in Slovenia. It sounded so cool and it was so handy. Sometimes I named a track properly after some medicine, sometimes I changed a few letters and sometimes I made up my own names. It sounded OK.''

But today you even organize events called '1605 Music Therapy'. Do you believe music can actually act like medicine? What does 1605 refer to?

''Of course it can! It's all about the way you take it in. If you believe it will help you, then it certainly will!! I would subscribe a daily dose of music to everyone and I am sure people would be much happier. 1605 is a number with a meaning. It's very personal.''
