"But after all we came back to this lovely machine and with the start of our own label in 2003 it's our third band-member. After using it a lot on "4 out of 5 aliens recommend this" we had the choice between another album with or without it, and because it dominates us after all we decided to name the Album "The Life we Choose" - it's a nice life with the 303's. Our babies."
Yeah, we noticed you put the Roland TB 303 as a band member on your MySpace page. Do you think there's any chance she might leave the band one day?
"Well, maybe one day but then we'll just delete the photo. At the moment we're pretty happy with our original 11 machines and tons of clones and plug-ins."
You decided to also release "The Life We Choose" as limited edition coloured vinyl. What makes releasing vinyl in the digital age still interesting?
"There are still vinyl collectors out there. Vinyl sounds much better than everything else and it's so sexy! We keep it true to our Vinyl Collectors who think that all labels have abandoned them due to the uprising of Digital Formats. But no - we don't get down like that. Me being the purist that I am, I still go record shopping 4 days a week. I could set up a sleeping bag there and digg for days without even taking a shower - cuz I'm dirty! We will retire before we ruin the Culture. We wouldn't be around without vinyl buyers. Thanks for your support and recommendations you make to your friends!"
In an interview Josh Wink once said he keeps coming back to the sound of Acid House not just because of the killer bass sound the Roland TB-303 produces, but also because it is a sexy piece of technology. What's your opinion about this?
"Oh yeah! We have sex with our machines all the time. Acid House in the late 80's made me jack my body sooo bad! I'll never forget - it changed my whole life! When I heard it for the first time I knew I had to get equipment to reproduce it myself and take it to the next level. Then I've met Ramon. He had a studio already and was into Chicago house as well. Hardfloor was born. Never forget where you come from - thats why we still respect this sound."
MixMag had a great feature in their October issue called "20 Years of Acid House". Can you tell us a story about the greatest, coolest or funniest things you two experienced during all those years?
"Just imagine all the free drinks, meals and groupies. But what happens in the grotto stays in the grotto ;)"
