How important is melody to you?
"Yes, it's a bit of a Hybrid tune, maybe even techno-electro-trance?! Melody is important, but more than ever before I am trying to achieve what is the ultimate goal, melody AND dance-ability! Often a melodic track can't be really grooved-rhythmic as the more stripped down tracks tend to get you moving more, so it's striking a balance. On my album I have a mix of everything."
Tell us everything about it!
"It's called 'Better Late Than Never' and it's my first ever artist album. It will be a double CD, one disc being mostly brand new material and a 2nd disc which features some of my previous work from the past decade. With it being exactly 10 years since I signed my first record deal I felt it was a good time to add this 2nd CD! It's out digitally in November and on CD format in January - the delay being down to Christmas. The minisite, available through my website, launched beginning of October. There are previews of the tracks, some info on them and my album launch tour dates. All info can be found there."
What synths do you use for leads? You got any favorite soft synths?
"I used to use the Access Virus a lot and would still recommend that synth as one of the best hardware synthesizers, although more recently I've not used it so much.
"Particular favourite soft synths include 'Battery' which I use for percussion, 'Imposcar', which is great for dirty leads and basses, and my current favourite, 'Nexus' which I've used extensively on the album."
What role computers played in the process of making 'Better Late Than Never'?
"A very big one! I'd say 90% of the new material is soft synth. When I do use hardware it's usually not long before I bounce it down to audio so I can start manipulating it within Cubase. That's the part of producing i really enjoy - audio manipulation. I'm such a nerd!"
