"At the same time, I now realize the value of an even stronger musical education than I allowed myself and regret not having pursued that more. Ultimately, the more knowledge you have, the better! That goes for ANYTHING, not just music!
"At a point, I thought that by pursuing more of a formal musical education, music would become more formulaic for me and I might dismiss ideas if they fell outside my sphere of training. Now, I know that's rubbish. I know that by NOT pursuing more musical knowledge, I've ultimately limited my sphere of ideas, when you think about it. That's not altogether a bad thing: our idea set is what gives us our signature, if ya follow. Yeesh, I think I may have rambled from the question! Short answer - I've always loved music, but only in the last 25 years has it become an absolute obsession."
What are your favorite free VSTi and VST fx?
"My VST folder is obscenely bloated. Over a thousand instruments/fx. Really tough to say my favs, there are MANY talented developers out there that produce really excellent quality free stuff. I am SO glad of this, too! It forces the larger or payware companies to really have something to bring to the table! If folks think they can get the same features/useability from freeware; what do they need to pay someone for? I use LOTS of freeware myself, but I can tell you that I use Andreas Ersson's Lazysnake and arcDev noise industries' ET-200 and Dubb Box an awful lot!"
How many times you make music (a day, a week, a month ???)
"It's a more appropriate question to ask when I am *not* doing something music related. I am constantly working on some sort of doodle. That and collecting sounds. I used to use my trusty Sony WM-D8C recorder and ECM-909A mic (one of the best condenser mics I've heard), but recently got a R-09 for me birthday! Very small and perfect for tidy field recording (just be sure NOT to use the "AGC" unless you are recording lectures from the back of the class or something)."
Err... on various internet sites there's a dog's picture on your profile page, is that dog yours?
"Nope. Sadly not. I grew up with pups, but now have 2 ornery cats. Love them, too. Never thought I'd become a 'cat person' as well as a 'dog person'!"
