MUSIC GAMES STILL ROCK?

But Steinberg is right. The sales of music games has since collapsed. Meanwhile, MTV has sold Rock Band. Even The Beatles couldn't save them. What we are seeing is a clear shift towards other platforms now. Think mobile and online-enabled games. Maybe that's what the underlying problem is. There is a new direction obviously but can the genre survive here?

Music Apps
Music/rhythm apps for the mobile platforms iPhone, iPad and Android are still selling but it seems the big profits are still being made on console games and collector’s boxed sets.

What the future will bring for the music rhythm genre is unknown. Scott Steinberg is also cautious in choosing his words: "Today’s market is not an indicator that it’s time to take a final bow. The music game industry’s current growing pains may rather be a sign that the party’s just getting started. Get your devil horns ready..."
