QUESTIONS FOR PENNY AND ASHTRAY

Fri, February 29, 2008
"Penny and Ashtray" are Tamotsu Ide & Momoyo Kubo from Japan. They seem to be on a mission in one of Isaac Asimov's short stories :)

When will we see you on stages around Europe?

"Of course we know YMCK, they are one of the most successful artists with 8-bit sound. We feel honored to be sometimes compared to them. They sound different compared to us, but we think there is a point in common - you can swing with YMCK and you can work out with Penny and Ashtray! We really enjoyed our first gig in Tokyo last year, so we are ready and would love to go anywhere if invited.

Tell us about the remix projects you did.

"We think remix competitions are like the bazaar model in the essay "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" by Eric S. Raymond, because the code/song is
developed/remixed over the Internet in view of the public. Definitely an open competition has the potential to create a new genre of music. Our winning remix of Flunk's "Personal Stereo" was released in late 2007 and Clint Crisher's "Run Baby Run" will come soon."

What do you hope will happen with Penny and Ashtray this year?
"Our first album "The secrets of Galaxy Z" is forthcoming on Saasfee*. This has a story behind the groove, in which we hope will find a new fan base. We have been making friends with many artists in the world through MySpace, we would like to collaborate with them. We have just started to work on the second episode of "Galaxy Z" series!"

Tell us a cool story.

"You can read at our MySpace how Penny and Ashtray's mission begun - and it is continued! While Penny and Ashtray were searching the space for a right answer, they just happened to notice the difference between Multivac and Neuvac. Soon they hacked Neuvac without attracting his attention and could detect damaged DNA in his sperm. Now Penny and Ashtray are looking for his ancestors to gather sperm from them. How? Like "2069: A Sex Odyssey" ;)
