STATE-X NEW FORMS FESTIVAL

As the musical leader of the New York based "The Swans", he pioneered many years with music which was played with very much decibel. Since he started his solo-project “Angels of Light”, his style transformed into an entirely acoustic one, without damaging the impact of his music. Also within this softer line are programmed "James Blackshaw", a very gifted acoustic guitar-player, and "Olafur Arnalds" who produces contemporary, innovative chamber music.

In the past few years there has been a real booming of interesting artists coming out their Scandinavian regionalism to conquer the rest of the world. The relative isolate position of countries as Sweden, Norway and Finland, regarding media-attention in the cultural field, has led to a practise by which musicians could experiment in their own backyard! They are of course very welcome at the State-X New Forms festival!

Last years' edition featured "Finnish Circle" and Aavikko on stage, this year we have a real Scandinavian connection. Apart from headliners "Motorpsycho", Norway is represented by "Killl" and "Shining". Also on the program are the Swedisch "Quit your Dayjob", "Olafur Arnalds" from Iceland and "Alice Rose" from Denmark, who incorporates elektronica in typical singer/songwriter music.

The programmers of State-X New Forms are well known for their ability to combine young, talented artists and bands who are undoubtedly considered as the initiators or godfathers of the aforementioned genres. A short summary of artists and bands that performed on State-X New Forms in past editions: Mono, Sonic Youth, Pere Ubu, Tortoise, Jamie Lidell, Plaid, Danielson, Chris Clark and many, many more.

The vision of State-X New Forms festival can be enumerated in the trinity X-plore, X-plain and X-pect. X-plore stands for new developments in experimental popular music, X-plain stands for the background and influences that led us to here and X-pect stands for the expectations in experimental popular music for the future.

With the complete line-up of this years edition at hand, it looks like it’s gonna be a very promising two-days challenge for all true music lovers! State-X New Forms is brought to you by Dutch live stage "Paard van Troje" and "Haags Pop Centrum" (HPC).
