ZION TRAIN LIVE AS ONE!

Fri, March 09, 2007

"Our live shows are improvised to a certain degree in that we have no set play-list and the tunes change each time they are played due to half of the sound being improvised on the spot. This keeps a nice musical intensity going on the stage and keeps us interested in our work. I'm sure that energy carries across to the audience and feeds the vibes also."

We have been told you love experimenting with technology. What is your favorite music software?

"My favourite technology is Logic Pro and my Apple Mac. I have been making music on Macs since OS 6 and have tried many sequencers and synthesis programs but Logic became and remains my preferred software."

How do you use your laptop on stage? Ever had regrets about that?

"I originally had a lot of trouble on-stage with my laptop due to vibrations. I solved this by using a couple of concrete slabs underneath the laptop and hard disc to reduce the vibrations they experienced. Then I had problems with electromagnetic induction by microphones and monitor speakers- careful stage positioning helps me get around that. Once I overcame those obstacles I had no regrets."

Some of your earlier albums have been re-issued recently. Apart from the remix album your last 'real' album - Sounds of the Zion - was released in 2002. End of this year we finally can expect a new album called "Live as One". What took you so long?

"I moved to cologne from wales, taking my studio with me - that took a little time as did re establishing myself in Germany both socially and sonically. Also Zion Train lost a couple of long term members due to solo project development so the composition and production of the new album was done in a new way- the methodology of this took a while to develop. The new album features seven vocalists - more than ever before - and has reached new musical heights. We are all very happy with it.
