MASHUP MASTERS: MAX TANNONE

Sat, July 24, 2010
Do you think mashups are the way forward for the music industry?

"They aren't the definitive way forward, but I think they are a legitimate and growing art-form. Again, by embracing and encouraging remix culture, artists are stimulating interest in themselves. As physical sales are falling, digital sales are rising. Contemporary remix culture is digital, a product of the internet. It allows everyone to be a DJ in their bedroom, and that will only encourage more people to experiment and learn. The idea of remixing and electronic music production in general is becoming more mainstream, the barriers to entry are extremely low and getting lower. Some kid could remix a song and it could be a huge hit for a record company. Who knows whats going to happen?"
