SATOSHI TOMIIE - INTERVIEW

Tue, June 29, 2010

Your music seems very mind altering and entrancing and a lot of people find their temporary escapes on your gigs and albums. Do you consciously work with the body-mind-music connection in mind?

"Thank you:) I don't consciously work with the connection but music does the job for everybody. I believe good music (or even just a good sound) connects someone's mind to it."

Do you have a religion? How does it impact on your music?

"My family of the father side have been serving Japanese Gods for about 800 years as Shinto Priests and it's engraved in my DNA. Please Google 'Shinto' if you want to know what it is. There is no 'direct' impact on my music but I am sure there are influences subliminally and deeply."

After 20+ years in the house scene, a lot of people would be looking for that one thing that is completely different from this kind of music, but would still keep the crowds entranced and attracted to club life. Where will we stand in 20 years from now?

"If people still are into it after 20 years, why not another 20 years? The 'cosmetic' part, like styles and such, has been changing a lot, but the fundamental foundation always stayed the same. Amazing isn't it?"

Can you tell us a bit more about the man behind the enigma Satoshi Tomiie - what makes your heart tick?

"Besides music: Food, food and great food. Seriously - one of the best things of what I do is encountering amazing and different food all over the world. Niiice!"

Give Satoshi some good food and he will shut up - or he would say 'Amaaaazing!' :D
