Almagretta are a Dub-Reggae-Electronica music collective from Naples, Italy.
Since 1992 they've released several influential albums, and their music has been recognized by both a loyal following as well as some major names in Electronic music.
They've worked with Adrian Sherwood, the mythical producer of On-U Sound, and they remixed tracks by acts such as Massive Attack, while the voice of Almagretta's initial lead singer Raiz has been lent to shine on songs by both Leftfield and Asian Dub Foundation.
Other collaborations include remixes with Bill Laswell (another "Grand Master" of Dub) and Count Dubulah, the bassist from TransGlobal Underground who went on tour with them.
Over the years Almamegretta lost some if their core members due to various causes, but Almamegretta never ceased to excist. In March 2008 they released a brand new 14 track CD album, titled "Vulgus". It features contributions from Raiz, Horace Andy (historic voice of Massive Attack), actor and writer Peppe Lanzetta, as well as rapper Lucariello and ethnic singer Marina Mulopulos. A remix by Dub Maestro Gaudi is included as bonus track. The Album artwork is cured once again by the unmistakable style of Mimmo Palladino.
Itialian site musicaoltranza.net is having a remix contest for "What have you done?" - a track from the Vulgus Album. There's an English page under "Rules", which is very basic - but where you can find the prize pool and all other info needed.
