The first version of Beatport launched in January 2004 with 79 record labels on board. Today Beatport is the recognized leader of electronic music downloads by DJs and fans alike. To help with music discovery, Beatport are also running a corresponding community site, Beatportal.com. Beatportal is a result of Beatport's goal to be the most relevant online resource for electronic music.
Over the years Beatport launched serveral high profile remix contests which were all promoted through Beatportal, letting contestants work their magic on the music of artists like Depeche Mode, Deadmau5, and Martin Solveig. With a total of 50 contests hosted by them so far, Beatport now launched a dedicated platform for hosting remix contests - called Beatport Play.
That’s not all: for the first time, Beatport, in partnership with sponsors, will offer the remix parts for free. Launch sponsors include Pioneer, Ableton, Novation, Odyssey, and iZotope. In addition to having their winning remix released commercially, winners will receive prize packages including audio production gear and software.
This step places Beatport in the center of the commercial remix battle with other contenders such as Indaba, Talent House, and mother of all commercial remix contest sites Acid Planet. May the best one win.
Meanwhile you can enter the following contests through the new Beatport Play portal:
■ Beck & Charlotte Gainsbourg - Paradisco [Because Music]
■ Chuckie - What Happens In Vegas [CR2/Big Beat]
■ Steve Aoki - Ladi Dadi [Ultra]
■ Christian Smith - Indecent Exposure [Tronic]
■ Bingo Players - Rattle [Hysteria]
