Fantastic Voyage Remix Contest

FANTASTIC VOYAGE REMIX CONTEST

Here's some great news! KevinNottingham.com teamed up with Fantastic Voyage for a brand new weekly remix contest featuring sixties and seventies' tracks

Fantastic Voyage is a UK based label, releasing recordings from the sixties and the seventies - jazz, R&B, soul, rock and soundtracks. Most recordings' original pressings are very hard to find and the reissues are mastered from the original tapes. They have recently expressed their desire to open some of their crates for music makers to dig into to create remixes and new productions with.

This contest will run similar to past remix contests by KevinNottingham and will last for 4 weeks, with a new track introduced each week. Each week will have one winner, so there will be 4 winners total. You will have one week only to complete your remix.

This week’s track to sample is “The Milk of the Tree” by Polly Niles (New York actress Polly Elliott). Produced by David Niles, and signed to Jeffrey Kruger’s Ember label in July 1969, Polly's first recordings were credited to 'Polly Niles' but only exist in the Ember vaults as a test pressing. An entire Polly Niles album was ready by February 1971, including compositions by Neil Young and Bob Dylan, as well as 'If I Let You,' (Polly Niles/Beau Ray Fleming) which was covered by another Ember artist, soul singer Carol Woods (Fantastic Voyage FVCD006). Like her first recordings the Polly Niles album never saw daylight, but in 2000 the delicate, haunting 'The Milk Of The Tree' was released on 'The Girls From Ember' compilation.

Download the track and craft your best hip hop beat. The winner will receive 4 of the best Ember soul funk compilations/reissue albums: Good To the Last Drop compilation, Mickey Stevenson - Here I Am, Milt Matthews Inc - For The People, and Carol Woods - Out of The Woods.
