It seems NIN's Trent Reznor indeed has set an example. Anyone who purchases a copy of Lily Allen's album 'It's Not Me, It's You' gets access to MP3s of the individual parts that make up each track on the album.
You can download these stems in order to remix any track from the album. You can remix as many tracks from the album as many times as you want and upload as many as you like. You can mix them up in any way you see fit as well - dropping in new samples, beats or vocals - or by taking away track parts, it's up to you.
Lily's website has a dedicated page for fan remixes, where you can upload your mix and listen to all entries.
The terms state it's not a contest but you never know what may arise from it. "The Remix Promotion is not a competition in that there are no prizes other than the chance for Lily and fellow Lily fans to appreciate your remixing skills! At some point in the future we may decide to release Remixes but there are no current plans to do so."
OK Trent is more cool because he's giving away stem files for free from the NIN website - but still, remixing Lily Allen might be fun!
There are about 200 remixes uploaded already, but we guess it can do with few more good ones ;)
