OVERCLOCKED REMIX FILES
Gold Coast (Australia) uni student Joel Falconer, the lead singer of the "Grok Rock" band Midnight.Haulkerton told us why they released "Overclocked" for remixing.
"The song Overclocked was inspired by Cory Doctorow's short story collection of the same name. Cory is a big believer in Creative Commons and allowing users to do what they want with the product (to a certain extent). When we released the song we knew that one day, in honour of this, it would be a good idea to release the individual tracks so listeners could remix without any restrictions.
"I also decided to strip all effects from each track. We had the distortion on the rhythm guitar, vocal reverb and compression and some funky modulated effect on the acoustic guitar in the second verse (and the list goes on). Without those effects in the track, the remixers have the freedom to do whatever they want, and create whatever soundscape they want.
"The only restrictions we placed on the remix package using a Creative Commons license were that users needed to attribute the song's origins to Midnight.Haulkerton, and refrain from using the track for commercial use. People can feel free to negotiate with us on that last one, though."
