Reaching over 5 Million users last week, SoudCloud definitely is on it's way to become the main place where musicians host and share their music. Bye bye Myspace! And with SoundCloud now hosting an official remix contest for Shakira, they seem to have also beat Indaba as platform for major remix contests. Congrats to our Berlin based friends!
“Rabiosa” is the latest single off Shakira’s new album Sale El Sol and Sony Music Entertainment wants you to twist, shake and rattle it up. Download the English and Spanish stems to the song, mix them up and upload your remix to the SoundCloud dropbox. Make sure to share your remix with your friends on Facebook, because Sony will be looking at the Top 10 with the most “Likes” to determine a winner and runners up.
The "popularity" aspect of this contest may be a downside, as is also the fact that the contest is not open for worldwide submissions (read the terms) - but don't let that hold you back to remix a great track by a great artist. If you make killer dubstep, would you really care about winning a Sony Full HD Memory Card Camcorder or an autographed Sale El Sol CD?
So wherever you are, go make that bass saturated mix and drop it in the Cloud :) Deadline is July 13th, see you there.
