THE RAT REMIX CONTEST WINNERS

Thu, July 09, 2009

Dead Confederate have picked the winner! We had a chat with bassist Brantley Senn about the band's five favorite remixes and their motivation for picking the winner. "Picking a winner has been very difficult. I was surprised to find so many that I loved. I even went in and made a remix myself, so as to better understand the difficulties involved. If I could, this would have ended in at least a five-way tie. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your efforts and for stepping up to the challenge. We were all very impressed."

About their top-5 remixes (in random order) Brantley said, "Hippie Chef utilized tempos in a great way, especially with the contrast of vocals to rhythm. Intense song with great use of melody." The band considered Kappy's remix a very fun track too."I really like the swing of the beat and how the creator used the original guitar licks to make his own rhythms." Other remixes from DC's favourites were commented on as follows. "I like the patience of Paul Murray's remix and the risk taken with making it over 11 minutes long. The changes are interesting and it's easy to enjoy. "Nugrej's track was the closest to matching the original, stylistically. The creator did a great job of adapting to the song. This track rocks! And I loved how Obile reinvented the song melodically. Great key changes underneath the singing and very original."

The last two already commented on by Dead Confederate, the best five remixes according to voting are Jo Public, Tray-La, Dave Martin, Obile and Nugrej (again in random order). One of the voters said both remixes by Jo Public and Tray-La made him wanna dead dance. Another voter said Dave Martin's remix was his favorite at the first impression. "The master is great and the piano, and bassline - but the structure is the same," so he voted him for second best. With a bit more tuning Dave's remix will work indeed on the dance floor. We feel it has a smell of DeadMau5 about it ;)

We picked the winner of the third prize from one of the remixes mentioned above, but there are some other remixes we like to mention as well. We liked Greg Mathias' entry because he gave the original track another load with his rework. Likemindr's remix has some real great edges to it, though at times its timing feels weird. We also think Angry Boy RulZ' remix is worth mentioning, if alone because it was the only Drum'n Bass remix. Anyone who ever tried converting a Rock track into DnB knows what it takes. Pfffff .... Last but not least we'd like to mention the remix by Jonatan Carvajal. Not only because it made us rock, but also because Jonathan voted correctly for the remixes that ended up winning 1st and 2nd prize ;)

And the winners are ....
Dead Confederate especially enjoyed the psychedelic aspects of Paul Murray's track, and therefore declared him winner of the contest. He wins Rob Papen's Blue Synth. Most voted for Tray-La wins 2nd prize Rhythm Guitar, and we thought Obile definitely deserves to win the 3rd prize Predator. We just loved his track!

Congrats to all winners! Find all remixes for everyone to download at the results page, including the mix of Brantley Senn :) Keep on remixing!
