REMIX SHANNON HURLEY AT ACIDPLANET

Mon, June 23, 2008

Apart from making music yourself you're also the driving force of "Don't Call Us Tori" - a platform showcasing other LA based female artists. Tell us about it and again: What's in the name? - Tori Spelling or Tori Amos?

"Our showcase refers to Tori Amos (although I'm sure Tori Spelling is a nice enough person). It's not meant to be a negative connotation - in fact, if Tori Amos ever hears about "Don't Call Us Tori", I hope she'd be flattered. This showcase is about celebrating the uniqueness of women artists, and bringing them together to celebrate their talent and letting fans discover how many fantastic singer-songwriters are out there."

Currently one of your tracks is featured in a remix contest at Acid Planet, a major remix web site operated by Sony. How did you get involved with them, and what do you hope to achieve with this contest?

"I got involved with them after researching different websites to see what kinds of remix contests were out there. ACIDplanet had just hosted a contest for Parthenon Huxley, who shares the same producer as me. I contacted ACIDplanet through MySpace and got a reply straightaway saying they were interested in hosting a contest for me.

"I hope to introduce my music to a whole new set of listeners. Also, I am really excited about the interactive nature of remixing. This allows everyone to be involved creatively, and that appeals to me. I am not sure that many singer-songwriters are taking advantage of the remixing culture, so I want to break down the walls that define genres and show people that a good song is a good song, no matter what genre it is performed."

You mentioned you want some of your other tracks to be remixed as well. So here's your chance. Anything you want to say to remixers reading this?

"I am excited to hear what people come up with for this project. I am hoping that people will see this as an opportunity to do something creative and unique, and there are no limits. These songs can be remixed in any style, and the winning remixes will be released on a full-length album. There are two places you can find stems to my music: ccmixter (all song files) and the special remix contest at ACIDplanet (for the track "Sunrise").

"Have fun!!"
