Still dizzy from the big bang? If you're still recovering from New Year's Eve, here are three fine music apps that won't disturb you when you sit back and relax.
Developed by ambient pioneer Brian Eno and musician/software designer Peter Chilvers, Bloom is a generative music player allowing anyone to create elaborate musical patterns and unique melodies by simply tapping the screen. Part instrument, part composition and part artwork, Bloom explores uncharted territory in the realm of applications for the iPhone and iPod touch.
Trope expands further on the ideas introduced by Bloom. Darker in tone, Trope immerses users in endlessly evolving soundscapes created by tracing abstract shapes onto the screen, varying the tone with each movement. Bloom is played by tapping on the screen and triggering individual bell-like notes. Trope is played by moving your finger around the screen, creating more sustained notes.
Air is an endless 'Music for Airports,' the first of four albums released in Eno's "Ambient" series. Created by Peter Chilvers and Irish vocalist Sandra O’Neill, Air assembles vocal and piano samples into a beautiful, still and ever changing composition, which is always familiar, but never the same.
"Air is like Music for Airports made endless, which is how I always wanted it to be." Brian Eno.
