By mouth of Richie Hawtin, Liine announced Griid, their modular touch control system for Ableton Live and iPad, at Sonar International Festival of Advanced Music and Multimedia Art, 2010. Acting as spokesperson, co-developer and first official user, Hawtin describes Liine's vision for the future of music control. The Griid App is also presented at a hands-on session at The Lab at the Minus Ghost Space today. Taking the stage as their laboratory, Liine aim to redefine the way people interact with sound.
A group of people coming together through a mutual passion for music and technology, Liine believe in taking a top-down approach to music control. Development begins and ends with the performance experience in mind. As such, Griid's specialised touch objects and gestures are refined through a back and forth process which blurs the boundary between stage and laboratory. The result is a playful and inspiring tool, augmenting the Ableton Live experience.
Griid, the first and core module, is a clip grid interface which ensures that you are able to find and fire any clip at any time, without missing a beat. Tuned for rapid navigation, enjoy the freedom of playing Live sets of any size with ease – even those sprawling Live sets who've grown a life of their own! Transform and interact with Griid using gestures familiar to iPhone and iPad users, fully adapted for music control.
Griid comes in three flavours. Griid Lite – try the Griid experience for free. Griid for iPhone and iPod Touch - the super-portable solution. Griid Pro - capitalises on the iPad's premium screen size.
