Enjoy music without getting numb. InterRupt measures background noise and when a noise breaks (is louder than) the background noise it routes it through to the headphones. You can decide how much louder the sound has to be before you hear it. It makes cycling and jogging safer when listening to music, podcasts or internet radio. The story of this app is interesting for a couple of reasons. Its developer, Loughlin Spollen from Ireland is delighted to chat about it.
"Firstly, I never coded in Java or Android before last Christmas. I'm a C++ geek and I'm also a compulsive traveller. I take off almost every winter and strap on a backpack. Have been doing so for 14 years - nice gig! This year I was beach bumping around Asia and after reading six books in a few weeks, I had enough and started coding. Had no internet access from my hammock which heightened the challenge. After a few months the InterRupt baby was born. I'm happy enough with the result but it's pretty impossible to get noticed in the crowd. I guess I've proved Android is a pretty straight forward platform for coders but a crowded market.''
Loughlin thinks the app stands out from the crowd in a couple of ways. "I like the UI. I paint and used to create comics as a kid. I've had a couple of 'wow, what's that?' comments while testing it on the road. Also, there's no other app on the market that does the same thing; no competition.
"It makes cycling and jogging safer when listening to music. And it's a good solution for listening to music at work (read hammock) - which I do all the time. I can now hear my colleagues (other beach bums) speak to me."
Sounds like a great app to us! Try out for free at the link below.
