Mixere is a free, open-source application for mixing audio files. It runs on Windows NT/2000/XP, and supports WAV, AIFF, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Flac, and Mod audio files.
Conceptually, it’s like a rack full of CD players connected to an automated mixer. Mixere's features include dynamic looping of audio, auto-triggering of audio, fully automated sliders, "soft" (gradual) mute/solo operations, crossfade between documents, and unlimited undo.
Mixere's interface is similar to a spreadsheet. The rows are tracks, and the columns are properties which can be adjusted for each track: name, transport (play/pause/stop/loop), mute/solo, volume, pan, pitch (+/- one octave), and audio position.
Mixere is optimized for live performance, and especially for creating live sound collage.
Since there hasn't been an update for a while we wondered about the future of this cool jamming tool. Mixere's developer, Chris Korda, said about this, "With more than 100,000 downloads to date, I consider Mixere a very sucessful project. It's not broken so why fix it? There probably won't be any further developments soon. Instead I'm working on my other open-source projects, FFRend, Whorld, and the latest one, Fractice."
These new projects are pretty nice to have graphics tools and definitely worth checking out if you're into VJ-ing. Chris Korda seems like a busy guy to us!
