Q2 Dual DJ

Q2 DUAL DJ - "DJ DUOS REVOLUTIONIZED"

Q2 DUAL DJ makes life a lot easier for DJ's who want to play together and perform with more interaction. Ask James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli.

Many people have a dream. Only few of them try to make it a reality. Amongst them is Lee Jones from the UK who dreamed about a perfect world in which two DJ's could interact without any hassle. We wanted to learn more about that world called Q2 Dual DJ, about that piece of cool hardware that has already been picked up by DJ's (and tech heads) James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli for their One+One World Tour. We asked Lee about it.

We checked your MySpace page to find out what the Q2 Dual DJ actually is, but we didn't get a clear picture. Can you give an example how to hook it up?

"As James Zabiela has mentioned in many of his interviews, setting up the Q2 Dual DJ is very simple. On the reserve of the Q2 are an input/output for each channel. All you need to do is connect all the CD players, decks, laptops in to the inputs then use the outputs to connect to each channel of the normal DJ mixer. All the connections are standard gold plated phono sockets. One DJ uses the normal DJ mixer to cue tracks etc, and the second DJ uses the Q2 to listen to whatever channels they want without interrupting the other DJ."

Obviously you feel the Q2 Dual DJ will enable DJs to play together and perform with more interaction. What is it you can do with this piece of hardware you can't do in a setup with 2 mixers and some creative (patchbay) routing of ins and outs?

"OK, the simplest way for 2 DJ's to try and play together is to use a headphone splitter. The problem with this (and it is a big problem!) is that both DJ's hear exactly the same
