Redline Monitor Plug in

REDLINE MONITOR

112dB seeks to put new creative tools in the hands of all of those for whom the computer is an integral part of the music-making process.

Don't we all love the sweet spot of our monitor speakers when rocking our laptops? How about situations where you can't use your beloved speakers and have to rely on headphones instead? Room mate freaking out, neighbours calling the police - whatever. Bye bye sweet spot!

In a speaker setup your left ear doesn't just hear the left channel coming from your monitors, but also part of the right channel - and vice versa. That is what makes the stereo listening experience - sound coming from an imaginary soundstage in front of you. With headphones this is not the case. Left is left, and right is right - and your brains are left clueless related to the stereo field and where the sound is coming from.

But not with Redline Monitor, a plug-in tool developed by 112dB that replaces the extreme stereo separation that is characteristic for headphones with the detailed stereo image of near-field monitor speakers. This plugin is around for a while yet, and received some good press last year.

By performing a combination of filtering, frequency-dependent delaying and mid & side processing, as well as room simulation - Redline emulates an acoustic soundstage that allows you to better localize sound sources. It also adjusts the relative levels of panned sources as they appear on speakers, and moves the sound stage from an indeterminate location inside your head (with headphones) towards a clearly defined location in front of you.

This way Redline Monitor allows you to better judge sound levels, stereo placement, and the overall balance of your mix on your favorite set of headphones - anywhere, anytime. It might be the end of night long headphone sessions that turn out lifeless the next morning.
