Intimidated by Octopus' extensive features? It's little brother Nemo has enough cool features to drive you and your laptop insane :)

How about the Octopus? The videos at your website left us a bit puzzled.

"We were actually told that learning to work with Octopus feels similar to the process of learning a language. You do need to know a few base concepts before you can build further and go anywhere. So it's no surprise that watching a video on Octopus feels like listening to a conversation in a foreign language. In real life though, the Octopus foundation is explained in a few minutes - and you need it, no question. The reward is that you may spend the next months discovering and exploring, and becoming creative, or actually put the use what you have learned and get productive right away. It is always a joy to see that people use the machine in ways we had never though of."

The Octopus doesn't make any sound by itself. It's a MIDI sequencer, capable to trigger the softsynths in our laptops. Can we assign some of it's buttons/rotary's to control softsynth parameters?

"Yes. The ten encoders on the left may be assigned any MIDI controller, and used as a dedicated controller

block, in parallel to the rest of the sequencer. Furthermore, there is lots of flexibility in assigning controller functionality to the right ten encoders as well. As of the buttons, they may be set to react as they are pressed and send any note in the MIDI range, for examples as triggers of some sort. Not an issue at all. No reason to fear you'll lose space for other things: you can set up a control area in what we call a page, and have the other 143 pages hold your sequences. With 80 concurrent tracks left to play, you do see that capabilities and space are in close relation.

"Finally, the manual is comprehensive, but we are not surprised that it feels intimidating. After all, Octopus may be used as one of the most functionally complex hardware devices out there!"

Intimidated? Take a look at Octopus' smaller brother. Don't get the wrong impression: The new Nemo has enough cool features to drive you and your laptop insane :)
